A Brief History of Digital Camera

The history of the digital camera is quite interesting and it goes back quite a while. In fact, NASA used analog signals for a while and began changing them over to digital signals sometime during the 1960s. During this time computer use was also increasing significantly and technology for computers increased as well. The government was using digital technology at this time as well in the way of spy satellites. Soon, the private sector jumped in and helped take digital technology a long way. In the mid '70s things started changing significantly and the road to digital cameras was paved. A machine vision camera as well as an industrial camera were introduced during this time frame as well with semi digital capacity but not exactly as we know it today. An industrial camera is for industrial use. Nevertheless, digital cameras were well on their way to becoming famous.

Kodak played a big role in developing cameras and equipment that utilized digital quality or formatting in some way or another but it was not until 1991 that Kodak introduced a professional digital camera system. This digital camera was focused on photojournalists and it had a 1.3 mega pixel sensor. That was big back then but as we know today even the cheap digital cameras have more than 1.3 mega pixels!

In 1994 the first home use digital cameras were developed and marketed. They worked with a serial cable directly connected to the computer. This included the Apple QuickTake 100 camera and the Kodak DC40 as well as several others that showed up between 1995 and 1996.

Kodak really started marketing the personal digital camera and teamed up with Microsoft and Kinko's to offer software as well as kiosks. Soon, the digital camera revolution had taken off and there were printers, cameras, and everything else that complemented the digital technology. As the years passed the digital technology increased and soon higher pixels were being offered, cameras were more affordable, and everyone was buying their very own.

Today digital cameras are super popular and it seems everyone has their very own. In fact, you can go buy a digital camera for a hundred dollars or a very nice one for a several hundred dollars. If you don't have a lot of money then you can even buy one used for as little as $30 or $40!

Webcam Basics

Instead of just communicating over the internet with text and emoticons, people are beginning to realize just how easy and fun it is to send video clips through cyberspace. Webcam setups range from simple to complex, and increasing the complexity is only a matter of adding functionality through software, custom code and/or equipment connections.

A simple Webcam setup consists of a Digital Camera attached to your computer, usually through the USB port. The camera part of the Webcam setup is just a digital camera -- nothing out of the ordinary so far. The "Webcam" nature of the camera derives from the software. Webcam software takes a frame from the digital camera at a preset interval (for example, the software might grab a still image from the camera once every 30 seconds) and transfers it to another location for viewing.

If you're interested in using your Webcam for streaming video, you'll want a Webcam system with a high frame rate. The frame rate indicates the number of pictures the software can grab and transfer in one second. For streaming video, you need a minimum rate of at least 15 frames per second (fps), and 30 fps is optimal. To achieve high frame rates, you must necessarily have a high-speed internet connection.

Once it captures a frame, the software broadcasts the image over your Internet connection. There are several broadcast methods. Using the most common method, the software turns that image into a JPEG (compressed) file and uploads it to a web server using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). You can easily place a JPEG image onto any web page in this manner and post your webcam images on the internet.

If you don't have your own Web server or web site, you can also use your web cam to send a video email. First, launch the software that comes with the camera. Depending on the model, the process of e-mailing and recording your video messages may vary. Press Start or Record to begin the video message. Click Stop and then preview the video. You can then click E-mail or Send, which automatically opens your default e-mail program.

When sending a video e-mail, the longer the video message recorded, the bigger the attachment will be, so make sure the recipient's computer can handle the size. The recipient of the e-mail does not need special software to see your video message; they simply choose to open the attachment and the mini movie will play.

Another increasingly popular way to use your web cam is a chat session with webcams in "real time" with instant messaging (IM) programs. During an IM chat, there will be an option to start the webcam right on the screen, or under the Options or Tools menu. In Windows Messenger, for example, the words Start Camera are on the right-hand side of the screen. It is also possible to adjust the volume, window size, and video resolution with IM options. The person on the other end also needs a webcam to visually chat.

Adjust your camera's focus, point it toward your face, and most importantly, look right into the "eye" of the webcam so your friends on the other end see more than just your forehead. Keep in mind that some webcams require an additional microphone to record audio.

Don't expect terrific video quality. It's often possible to adjust the video resolution by toying with the webcam's software settings, but the higher the quality, the choppier the video frame rates will be. Webcams can also be used for remote security monitoring, but beware of hackers who could intercept your video feed and then spy on YOU. Make full use of passwords and encryption.

Sony Memory Stick: Your Data Memorised by a Stick

Memory sticks, in simple language, are portable devices used for storing data. And this memory stick can be fitted into and removed easily from your electronic device such as your mobile or your PC. Today, as we know, our gadgets have multi-uses. Your mobile is also your camera, video cam, music player, video and movie player.

In this age of information, there is so much data that you would like to save up, apart from your official documents and personal memories. And who do you think will give you the space for all that? Memory stick gives you that digital space devoted to you. Memory stick is used to give that exclusive storage for your data, because it would not be feasible to save so much data on your computer or cellphone alone.

Memory sticks can be used to save your data such as text, audio or video files in other electronic devices as well such as HandyCams, DigiCams. Memory sticks ensure many advantages such as much more storage capacity and faster file transfer speeds.

Sony memory sticks are trusted brand products available in the market. The technological brand leader Sony launched its memory stick in October 1998. These sticks can be used in digital music players, PDAs, the PlayStation Portable (PSP), and in other devices. For example, Sony digital compact cameras use memory sticks for storing image files.

Generally, Sony memory sticks have a storage capacity of 128 MB. However, an 8 GB card was launched in 2006 in Las Vegas and the Memory Stick PRO has a maximum potential size of 32 GB.

Sony memory stick has a sleek design, and its ultra-small size and light weight (4gms) makes it suitable for use in small digital Audio-Video (AV) devices such as the Sony Digital HandyCam Camcorder.

How video chat started

Nowadays, most people use the internet and all its features. But the question is how did it all begin? Video chat is something that is becoming more and more popular because it allows the users to hear the voice of the other person and see them at the same time. If you think about it, who wouldn't like to see the person they talk while engaging in the conversation?

Video chat is also known as video conferencing. This was developed at the same time as the television. They consisted at first of two closed-circuit television systems that were connected through cable. NASA used this type of communication on the first manned space flights. Instead of cables, two frequencies were used, UHF and VHF, one for each direction. This sort of conferencing was used for broadcasting from distant locations, but now, going one step further, satellite links are established using special trucks.

Because it was very expensive, this technology couldn't be used as part of common long-distance applications. Some tried to use normal telephony networks for transmitting slow-scan video, but didn't succeed due to the lack of picture quality and efficient video compression technique.

The 1980s marked the development of digital telephony transmission networks, like ISDN. The expansion of such networks led to the appearance of the first dedicated system from companies that specialized on this particular area. This is how video chat started. It was still quite costly, but throughout the 1990s, they evolved from expensive proprietary equipments to rather standard technology available for the general public.

In the 1990s something revolutionary was developed. IP based cam chat was developed and along with it more efficient video compression. This allowed video chat using you personal computer. The technology used is basically the digital compression of audio and video streams in real time. Codec, short for coder/decoder, is the common name used for the hardware and software that perform the compression.

As it was shown, cam chat involves compressed audio and video streams. But how to we input or output them? Video input is usually done with a video camera or webcam. The output of video streams involves hardware like a monitor, television or a projector. Microphones are used to input audio streams into a computer and speakers allow the output.

After all the inputs and outputs, the audio and video streams are compressed up to 500 times. The resulting stream is then subdivided into labeled packets, which are sent to the recipient. The codec must be the same so the recipient's hardware decodes the received packets, see the images and hear the sounds. Mostly digital networks like ISDN and IP are used. That is the basic process involved in cam chat.

There are some things that present a problem with this type of communication. Some people believe that eye contact is very important in a conversation. Traditional telephone conversations do not allow any eye contact, but cam chat is believed to be even worse because it seems that the interlocutor avoids eye contact. This is, of course, a wrong impression and the problem may be overcome with advancing technology.

If you like cam chat, be sure to visit videocodezone.com. This website offers a lot of features and on top of it all it is free.

This is the basic history of video chat. From the starting point to present days, cam chat has evolved and can be used by everyone. It allows people to see the interlocutor's face and gestures even if they are half way around the world. The mentioned website also gives you the possibility to enjoy all this for free.

Shopping Tips for the Latest Gadgets and Gifts

It is that time of year again. Everybody is getting ready for the holidays and deciding what presents and gifts they want to get their family and friends. I know some of you out there might find it hard to know what to get everybody on your list.

I have a few tips for you which will make shopping a little easier this year. If you are going to be being any electronics or other gadget type gift then you definitely do not what to miss this article. I have important tips you need to know about when buying the latest gadgets.

First off start your holiday shopping early. It does not matter how early in the year it is. You can start buying presents and gifts for loved one right after the holidays and Christmas when everything goes on sell. This is a great time to find awesome deals.

One word of caution here though. This is not a good time to buy the latest electronic gadgets like digital camera or computers. Electronics like these are changing so fast with new models coming out and prices on old models dropping what seems like everyday. What seems like a great price on a digital camera now might not be such a great price 8 months later when you are ready to give the camera to that special person. Now for non-electronic gifts anytime is a great time to get them. Gifts like decorations, clothes, classic CDs and DVDs are great to buy way a head of time.

Step two is to write down any items you hear a family member or friend mention they would like to have. If it is early enough in the year then you can even ask them questions about that item without them thinking you might purchase it for them. Try that a month before Christmas and see if they are a little suspicious. Keep this list someplace secret and convenient and simply add to it over the year. This list will come in handy for birthdays as well.

Step three is designating an area someplace to keep all the gifts and presents you buy early. It can be a closet or box tucked away someplace where the people who the gifts are for never look or use. Also make sure and keep all receipts organized in case you need to return something.

Step four is finding gifts for those hard to buy for people. In this case get them something fun and unique. Buying gadgets and other off the wall items is great for these types of people. When I say gadgets I do not mean items like digital cameras and computers. I'm talking about RC floating snack trays, kitchen gadgets like a pop-up hotdog cooker or a self stirring mug. They are sure to love those unique gifts.

Which Nexgen Console Is Right For You (PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii)

If you are looking for a NextGen Console, then the three main choices are the PS3, the XBOX 360, and the Nintendo Wii. Each have their own characteristics, advantages, game catalog and selection, so it pays to review the best of each before you make your decision, if it is time for an upgrade or new purchase.

The Playstation 3 or PS3 is from Sony. This game box is set up for online multiplayer gaming with three Ethernet networking ports for broadband internet connections or linking up with your computer. The PS3 has next-gen storage capabilities, at 80, 60, 40 or 20 GB. The system also has WIFI and USB ports. Some of these systems also accept flash cards and have Blue-Ray capabilities, as well as DVD. You should be able to keep your old Playstation games with an upgrade.

For most gamers, the PS3 was a big snooze. Compared to the XBOX 360 or Wii, something seemed to be lacking. The Playstation 3 did not seem so much different than the previous version, nor the games. So, a big question is, can the PS3 really bounce back, through better development of games for this platform or for new services and capabilities in the PS4? What will it take to bring the spice back to the Playstation platform? For the most part it is the distraction of much better competition than existed in the early days of the Playstation line. Another is simply the boredom and burnout that many gamers may have experienced after years of the same Playstation games. For them, a change to a new xbox system or wii is like a whole different experience. For the casual user, or for those who play mostly popular games that are found on all systems as well as PCs, it won't make much difference.

The PS3 offers as much bang for the buck as any other gaming system. So it is mostly a question that if you have been using the Playstation for many years and playing the same games, the new look and feel of the xbox and wii will be more interesting. But do they really have better games, graphics, sounds, and extra features? Probably. The PS3 is a bit light when it comes to comparing to the others. But if you are willing to spend enough money, it is possible to customize the new PS3 completely. The other set ups seem to give a more interesting variety for similar investment. The PS3 does have the advantage of the sleek consumer design and tradition of Sony. But much like the last generation of Vaio laptops, it seemed to be an off year for the company. Nevertheless, there are some hardcore gamers who will never leave the platform. For them, the PS4 is sure to be as popular, if not more than, the PS3. Otherwise, the rest will be switching to the XBOX as a gaming platform of choice. You can go to Best Buy or Circuit City and test each one out for yourself before you buy and see which games are most interesting. But the big factor is price. At a standard cost of two to three times the XBOX or Wii, does the PS3 really have that much more to offer? Sales figures suggest that cost will determine the popularity of one similar product over another. But if the other has more features and is half the price, which would you choose? For this reason the XBOX is recommended over the PS3 for most.

The XBOX 360 is a mash up from Microsoft, IBM, ATI, and other companies. It is said to be part of Microsoft's strategy to compete actively in the gaming market. This set up comes with a nice, custom gaming console that is sure to make playing all the games easy and fun. It also has a remote control and head set. There is a lot of hard disc space and a Microsoft operating system, so that and the many, many excellent games for the XBOX systems make it the top choice.

Compared to this is the Nintendo Wii, the new release following the Game Cube series from Nintendo. The operating system is also quite good on this system, with lots of memory and storage space. This comes with a remote control and a nunchuck, but it is no comparison to the XBOX set up. The real hope is the Wii may generate some new concepts in gaming and gaming possibilities. There is still the excellent round up of games for the system

One of the interesting, new developments with the Nintendo Wii system is the Mii Channel. The Mii system allows you to create 3-D avatars on your Wii system. Nintendo is launching an online Mii Channel that will allow users to share these avatars and vote on them. Wii users love the ability to create avatar models of themselves, their friends, and families to take part in traditional video game roles. The increase in video games allowing users to manifest as their own Mii is also sure to increase. As users can save their Mii on their Wii system and use the same avatar to play different games, it is also hoped that this system will advance to allow the avatars to enter into other online virtual worlds.

The future for this system has a lot of possibilities for video game players. An advanced Mii system will first have to incorporate better design tools and graphics for the avatars. Users will want to spend their time to create avatars with all of the characteristics they need to enter and play the video games. These avatars should also be able to incorporate their own tools or gadgets from game to game, or platform to platform. Having the avatars able to be customized in this manner, different avatars with various configurations of features, accessories, spells, and so forth can be saved on the game box like the Wii.

If the Mii avatar can be made to apply in a wider variety of game applications, including online MMORG environments, then it will be an interesting success. The worry is that allowing avatars to carry gadgets from other systems in games that were not designed for them could completely change the game itself. But the advantages of having an avatar with all of the attributes, accessories, and additions one wants ready, before entering the game's environment to participate is clear. The ability to carry acquisitions found in one game by the avatar into another game is also interesting. A lot of new possibilities for video game development exist in the further expansion of the Mii avatar on the Nintendo Wii gaming system, and into other platforms.

In summary, the recommendation is to go with the XBOX 360 for its great all around package of console, operating system, ports, and game catalog. The Nintendo Wii will come on strong if game developers expand some of the new possibilities inherent in the system. Otherwise, we'll be waiting for Wiii.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360)--Enjoy sensational moments of Soccer

It is time to rejoice! The Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360) with newer additions and more advanced gaming options is on the market for giving a more sensational gaming experience. Especially exciting game like soccer with more realistic touches is ready for users. See what extra this gaming console has to offer! Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360) is smoother than the previous year’s version and incredibly addictive offering fantastic performance in multiplayer. As the President of Konami, Kunio Neo comments "easily the best Pro Evolution Soccer title to date". He is also quite positive that PES 2008 will be welcomed by the game fans as the greatest football game of all time. The game is surprisingly best in Xbox 360 than PS3. However one cannot say that the 360 version is perfect. In Xbox 360 too the goal replays and the player faces are still as hit and miss as it was in the PS3 version. Moreover the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360) version has photo-realistic pictures of famous faces like Didier Drogba and Robbie Keane. Its graphics are also quite distinct. On the other hand the graphics of close-ups of players in PES 2008 is much better than the FIFA-08 graphics. Animations of players are also fantastic with interesting inclusions like footballers waggling their fingers, holding their hands up while challenging the players of the opposing team and throwing their fists. So are the animations of shooting, passing and tackling a are very spontaneous.

As many reviewers view “ Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360) is the best football game engine the world has ever seen has undergone a few, subtle tweaks, but nothing has been implemented that will fundamentally change the way you play the game”. Even the fans of the PES games would feel very comfortable with spraying cross-field passes and splitting the opposition's defence, just like any expert Brazilian footballer. The gaming console even houses the sophisticated Teamvision system for giving a better effect to the game. Even the commentary in the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360) is highly improved. Here you would find the John Champion and Mark Lawrenson expressing their critical views on the proceedings.

With lot many improvements Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360) is much more superior than the other PES gaming consoles. The game here is much more lively and realistic than that can be ever expected from an electronic gaming device.

PHP: A functional tool to create dynamic web pages

PHP is a general-purpose scripting language that is used in Web development. Through PHP, you can create dynamic web pages that can be viewed by people over the World Wide Web.

PHP is short for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. IT is created and licensed by the PHP Group but it is considered to be free software by the Free Software Foundation. When your browser opens a PHP-enabled web site, the pages are treated just like regular HTML pages and you can create and edit them the same way you normally create regular HTML pages. PHP runs on a web server. When you create a web page using PHP, you enter a PHP code as your input and the output is the created web page. You can use PHP on almost every operating system and platform including: PHP can be used on all major operating systems, including Linux, many Unix variants (including HP-UX, Solaris and OpenBSD), Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, RISC OS.

PHP has also support for most of the web servers today. This includes Apache, Microsoft Internet Information Server, Personal Web Server, Netscape and iPlanet servers, Oreilly Website Pro server, Caudium, Xitami, OmniHTTPd.

PHP uses procedural programming or object oriented programming, or a mixture of them. PHP is used mainly in server-side scripting; command line interface and writing desktop application.

Server-side scripting is the most traditional use for PHP. To use PHP for server-side scripting you need a PHP parser, a web server and a web browser. You enter PHP codes with the parser on a web server and it is translated into a PHP page that you can view on your web browser.

However, it is also possible to make PHP script run without a server or browser. All you need is a PHP parser. This type of usage is ideal for scripts regularly executed using cron (on *nix or Linux) or Task Scheduler (on Windows). These scripts can also be used for simple text processing tasks.

While PHP is not the best language to use when writing a desktop application, it is possible. With PHP you can create a desktop application with a graphical user interface. If one is familiar with PHP and would like to use its features, there is PHP-GTK. With PHP-GTK you also have the ability to write cross-platform applications this way. However, PHP-GTK is an extension to regular PHP and not available in the main distribution.

While PHP websites are treated by web browsers as ordinary HTML pages, they are superior from regular websites in the sense that they have more features.

With PHP you are not limited to output HTML. PHP allows for the outputting of images, PDF files and even Flash movies. You can also output text in almost any form such as XHTML and any other XML file. PHP auto generates these files, and saves them in the file system, instead of printing it out. This forms a server-side cache for your dynamic content.

PHP supports a wide range of databases including Adabas D, InterBase, Postgre SQL, dBase, FrontBase,SQLite, Empress, mSQL, Solid, FilePro, Direct MS-SQL, Sybase, Hyperwave, MySQL, Velocis, IBM DB@, ODBC, Unix dbm, Informix, Oracle, Ingress and Ovrimos. PHP also supports ODBC, the Open Database Connection standard which allows you to connect to any other database supporting this world standard. PHP also has support for talking to other services using protocols such as LDAP, IMAP, SNMP, NNTP, POP3, HTTP, COM (on Windows) and countless others. You can also open raw network sockets and interact using any other protocol.

PHP has support for the WDDX complex data exchange between virtually all Web programming languages. PHP also has support for instantiation of Java objects and using them transparently as PHP objects. PHP has text processing features. For parsing and accessing XML documents, PHP 4 supports the SAX and DOM standards, and you can also use the XSLT extension to transform XML documents. PHP 5 standardizes all the XML extensions on the solid base of libxml2 and extends the feature set adding SimpleXML and XMLReader support. Between its functionality and its ease of use PHP is one of the best ways for anyone- be they a beginner or a veteran - to create a dynamic and interactive website to share with users of the World Wide Web.

Free MP3 Download Provider

Free MP3 Download Provider

Almost everything is available in the Internet nowadays, articles, news, books, softwares, applications and the most downloaded MP3 song provider. Downloading free MP3 in the internet requires you to install a file-sharing software. One of the infamous MP3 file sharing software is LimeWire. LimeWire is a peer-to-peer file-sharing client for the Java Platform, which uses the Gnutella network to locate and share files. Released under the GNU General Public License, Limewire is free software. It also encourages the user to pay a fee, which will then give the user access to LimeWire Pro.

Here's a quick reference to its features and system requirements:

Written in the Java programming language, LimeWire is able to run on any computer with Java Virtual Machine installed. Installers are provided for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Support for Mac OS 9 and other previous version was dropped with the release of LimeWire 4.0.10. It offers the sharing of its library through Digital Audio Access Protocol. As such, when LimeWire is running, any files shared will be detectable on the local network by DAAP-enabled devices (eg. iTunes).

* Ease of use - just install, run, and search.

* Ability to search by artist, title, genre, or other meta-information.

* Elegant multiple search tabbed interface.

* "Swarm" downloads from multiple hosts help you get files faster.

* iTunes integration for Mac and Windows users.

* Unique "ultrapeer" technology reduces bandwidth requirements for most users.

* Integrated chat.

* Directly connect to a computer.

* Browse host feature--even works through firewalls.

* International versions: Now available in many new languages.

* Automatic local network searches for lightning-fast download.

System Requirements: Must have the Java2TM Runtime Environment, v.1.3.1 (JRE), 64 MB RAM

LimeWire is must-have software of MP3 enthusiast. It provides unlimited downloads and most specially, it is for free. A free version of LimeWire can be downloaded at www.softpedia.com.

Another way to download free MP3 is the use of µTorrent software. µTorrent is BitTorrent software that allows you to download from torrent files. It is Micro-Sized Yet Feature Filled. Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange. Resource-Friendly, µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources - typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all. Additionally, the program itself is contained within a single executable less than 220 KB in size. µTorrent also has support for localization, and with a language file present, will automatically switch to your system language. If your language isn't available, you can easily add your own, or edit other existing translations to improve them. Actively Developed and Improved, the developer puts in a lot of time working on features and making things user-friendlier.

It can be used to download single mp3 files but it can also be used to download albums or song collection of artists. µTorrent is for free and you can download it at its official website. A detailed guide on how to use µTorrent is also available at their website.

iPod./Mp3 The Next Generation Walkman Replacement

An iPod is a portable digital media player designed and marketed in 2001 by Apple Computers. Currently, it is the best selling audio player with over 50 million sold and 1 billion legal downloads sold through its online music store, iTunes. Being an Old Codger, I never imagined I'd get the hang of these incredible machines. But WOW they really are something.

The popularity of the iPod became Apple's first and successful attempt to branch out from its iMac products and a reputation of being just a computer company. It's easy to see why the iPod dominates the market, with Apple's ingenious marketing strategies, great features, and appealing look of their products, it is destined to dominate the mp3 market for some time to come.

We need to understand that it is an mp3 audio player that has models incorporating video capabilities. The ability to have a large memory capacity enables the user to store thousands of songs for music and thousands of photos and videos. This makes the iPod such a desirable product, especially to the youth market. The newer models boast a memory of up to 80 gigs. This can be comparable to a hard drive in a home computer. Many people use their unit as an external hard drive to store data off of their computers.

There are many models to choose from as well as upgrades from previous versions. Each new version brings it's own unique features and accessories that can be added on. These accessories contribute immensely as revenue generators for Apple and keeps the public interested in spending more money to get the latest add on features.

You would be hard pressed if you couldn't find an electronics store that doesn't have a section devoted totally to iPods and the adapters and gadgets to dress it up.

Some of the extras presently available to consumers include camera connectors, power adapters, auto charger, car holder, external microphone, external speakers and many more. If you want to expand the fun aspect of these versatile devices, get yourself a karaoke attachment and sing along with your favourite tunes.

With the iPod being focused on music and convenience, it stands to reason that they would find their way into the automobile market. In the US, 70% of the 2007 models will offer iPod integration.

If you're looking at portability as an option, which is the most popular way they're used, lithium, rechargeable lithium-ion and lithium polymer rechargeable type batteries can be used. Most lithium-ion batteries use a fast charge to charge your batteries quickly up to 80% capacity, then they will switch to trickle charging for the remaining 20%.

Docking units that use AC and DC power are also available to keep a full charge handy when the iPod is stored for a period of time.

. There are a few companies releasing their own version of the iPod and accessories because they know that the market is very lucrative. Apple's version will probably reign supreme for a while yet especially with the new models and upgrades they constantly put out in the marketplace. They have also branded a name themselves and other companies wanting to get into this elite Mp3 market, will have to contend with people calling their unit an iPod as a generality instead of the given product name.

In conclusion, with the great versatility of music, photo and video, coupled with fast transfer speeds, the iPod makes a great choice for those who love having a portable and personal multi-media device. I am completely hooked, and my Grandchildren don't stand a chance. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Marion Greenfield.----- Have a look at this site it'll make your Head spin. Origins Of The Apple iPhone

Although a detailed history of the development of the Apple iPhone smartphone does not exist yet, analysts and researchers tracing the Apple iPhone's history have made several educated guesses.

The start of the Apple iPhone might be traced to Apple founder and chief executive officer Steve Jobs decision to do more investigation on touch senstive displays, leading to more interactive tablet computers.

Many have noted the iPhone's similarity to its predecessor the Newton MessagePad. Although hailed for its groundbreaking handwriting recognition, the Newton was seen by many analysts as one of the leaders in tablet technology, but perhaps it was ahead of its time to find sufficient market acceptance. Nonetheless, there are still Apple enthusiasts still using their Newton tablets to this day.

The Newton was nearly all screen, lacking a keyboard, a similar trait which is to be found in the iPhone. This design feature has been attributed to Apple design head Jonathan Ive.

But Apple did not immediately focus on developing the iPhone, after the launch of the Newton and its successful iMac series of desktop and laptop computers. Instead, it focused its energies on developing the iPod digital music player and the iTunes online music store and community site.

It was only in late 2005 that Apple collaborated with telecom giant Motorola to release the ROKR E1, the first mobile phone to use iTunes.

However, industry insiders say that Steve Jobs felt that the ROKR did not turn out the way he expected. As a result, the Apple and Motorola joint product development did not continue.

Apple meanwhile focused its energies on creating a telecoms device which would play both pictures and video.

Subsequently, it was only at the Macworld convention in early January 2007 that Steve Jobs announced the iPhone, a move that would create an uproar and much expectation in the technology world.

Since then, hundreds of bloggers have posted close to 300,000 blog posts related to the Apple iPhone, which gives an indication of the expected excitment regarding the iPhone's launch.

Starting with Apple's memorable "1984? commercial during that year's Super Bowl, Apple's products have continued to hold the public captivated and keep them entertained with its unique brand of marketing.

The iPhone looks set to wow on the world stage, just as it has at Apple's developer conference.

Can the iPhone create a revolution in the cellphone arena?

Is The Apple iPhone Easy To Use?

The greatest fear among the technophobic is the inability to use a new computer, a new piece of software or a new electronic device. Faced with this challenge, the Apple iPhone flattens the learning curve considerably.

Apple's approach has always been to create products from a user's perspective, rather than from an engineer or a computer programmers perspective.

That approach clearly pays off for the computer industry's powerhouse, with products like the Macintosh, the iMac, the PowerBook and the iPod under its belt.

The fact that its iPod digital music player is the dominant MP3 player in the market, with more than 90% of auctions at sites like eBay is testament to Apple's design prowess.

One might say that the iPhone is the smartphone especially designed for people who hate to use cellphones.

The iPhone's user interface is intuitive, giving users the ability to use most of the iPhone's functions without reference to a user manual.

Apple which was among the pioneers of the graphical user interface in its Mac line of computers has done for the smartphone, what it has already done for the desktop, laptop and its iconic iPod digital music player.

While you might sit back and feel that the iPhone's features are so user friendly that anyone could have done it, you might see some of the irony in that statement.

If the iPhone was so simple to use, why hadn't one of the other major telco's already instituted features like an intelligent keypad, computing intelligence smart enough to adjust the LCD display's brightness in response to environmental lighting, or the disabling of the keypad when it is brought close to your face already?

While it's competitors seem to be constantly struggling to add more features to its digital music players and computers, trying to outdo each other, this seems like an exercise in significantly upping the whizz-bang factor of its devices.

Instead Apple goes the opposite route and looks for the simplest solution to any design or technical challenge.

There is an elegance in simple solutions, and its the user friendly nature of the Apple iPod and soon the Apple iPhone which will likely bring this category of smartphones into the mass market.

Many complain that existing smartphones are perhaps a little too smart for their own good, with menus buried under more menus, and users struggling to make simple changes to their phones.

The iPhone looks set to change that trend and if it succeeds in doing so, it would have blazed yet another trail on the technology landscape.

Who Needs An Apple iPhone?

Although the launch of the Apple iPhone means that many who see the next generation smartphone is sure to want one, we have identified a few key consumers who might find the iPhone an indispensable tool.

The Students: Given Apple's close link to the academic community, it's inevitable that there will be some alliances forged between the two realms of Apple's cutting edge design and technology and the needs of academia.

One of Steve Jobs' previous start-ups, NeXT, focused on higher education and business markets, while its Mac line of desktops are used in biotechnology research and analytical computations.

Students using the iPhone will find its features like the ability to playback MP3 tracks useful. Not so much for catching the latest pop songs, but rather to catch education-related podcasts.

The iPhone's ability to stream video means that e-learning or distance learning can take place, as long as the academic institution has the infrastructure in place.

Having a 2-megapixel digital camera built into the iPhone means that photos can be taken with ease, whether it's for assignments or for personal recreation.

Road Warriors: Business people on the move will find the iPhone to be useful, especially with the availability of full featured Internet access, rather than the abbreviated web surfing currently available on many smartphones.

This means that not only will you be able to check for information on the Internet, it also means that secure business transactions can take place easily.

The availability of Internet access over Wi-Fi networks mean that available Web 2.0 services will allow mobile office workers to access their data on the move.

Freed from being deskbound, the Apple iPhone is currently enabled to access Google's Maps application. Over time, you can expect Apple's strategic partners to develop more business applications.

Business Owners: The workhorse nature of the iPhone together with its close integration to Apple's Safari Internet browser, mean that business applications can be used seamlessly.

We can make an educated guess that the separation between the computer and your mobile iPhone device will be erased over time.

Perhaps we might even predict that the iPhone will gradually take over the functions of your laptop or notebook computer over time.

With Apple's support for its developer network, this means that a new generation of business applications can be expected on the horizon.

Apple's broad appeal is not just limited to the iPhone however, it's previous products such as the Mac, its followup brethren the iMac and the iPod digital music player have received a warm reception from its users.

Anatomical breakdown of how the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store backend works at Starbucks

The iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store has been getting some notable press lately. Around here at Silver Lining we recently rolled out a release to our software for iPhone compatibility, and then a few of us started talking about how the wi-fi music store might operate. Having spent my fair share of time in inernet music startups, I took a crack at breaking down how the backend of the wi-fi music store works for my coworkers. They insisted that I write my thoughts to the general public for consumption, so here goes.

I searched the web for clues, and came up with a few, but didn't actually find a technical description of the backend blessed by Apple or an Apple engineer blogging under a pseudonym. However, this statement by Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz was quite helpful - "Schultz said the Apple partnership required a substantial infrastructure upgrade for Starbucks.". Before I go into what I think exactly this infrastructure upgrade was, let's review how the store operates.

When an iPod touch is in range of a Starbucks T-Mobile hotspot, a fifth button appears on the iPod touch display. So that requires the wireless driver to continuously poll for Starbucks' SSID, or possibly trigger a callback on detection of a new SSID which matches certain criteria. Easy enough.

The clutch feature of the store client is that you can press a button and buy the song which is currently playing in the Starbucks. Great for impulse buying. But how does it work? There are several possible explanations, but what really seemed to be the hard part would be purchasing a song right when it stops playing, or shortly after. Those are the real impulse purchases. How do you synchronize the user clicking 'buy this track', with what is currently playing?

My answer is that you have a fixed playlist running on an iMac at the Starbucks location (the substantial upgrade that Schultz mentioned). The iMac downloads the playlist from the big iTunes store using a probably slightly modified iTunes client, and runs through each playlist, downloading new playlists as needed. "The Starbucks button allows you find out what is currently playing in the store plus the 10 previous tunes and purchase said music right on the spot.". So when you click 'Buy currently playing track', the music store client on the iPod notes the time, queries the iTunes store, and retrieves the list of 10 last played songs from that time. Pretty simple, and the key is that you can do it with a server side upgrade to the iTunes store and not much else (except for the iPod wi-fi store client and the iMac in Starbucks). Although I could see how in Starbucks' eyes that putting an iMac in a Starbucks would be a 'substantial infrastructure upgrade'.

I've told this to a few people, and some of them thought that the music was streaming through the internet to the Starbucks. Having spent many hours dealing with the nits of streaming audio over the internet, I can say that's probably not the case. It's just so much easier to use playlists and download the music in advance, you avoid all the technical problems associated with streaming.

I'm sure that we will see this functionality coming to iPhones and notebooks soon enough with a software upgrade. It would be interesting to take a look at the traffic flowing back and forth between the iPod touch and Apple's servers. That's on my todo list, but I've never really liked Starbucks coffee, so it might be a while.

How to Run Windows or Linux on your Intel powered Mac?

Have you ever wanted to run Windows or Linux applications on your Mac? Well if you have an Intel powered Mac running a Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later operating system you can run a complete Windows or Linux operation system in parallel while still running your Mac operating system.

What you need to do is install the Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac software on your system. To successfully run Parallels Desktop on your Mac you must have the following:-

* Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later. To check what version of Mac OS X you have got, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu in the menu bar.

* An Intel-powered Core™ Duo or Core™ Solo Mac® Mini, iMac®, MacBook™, MacBook Pro or Mac Pro.

* A minimum of 768MB of RAM but 1GB is recommended.

* About 200 MB of hard disk space on the boot volume for Parallels Desktop installation.

* Sufficient space on your hard disks to allocate for the virtual machines, i.e. 15 GB of hard disk space is recommended for each virtual machine.

Installing Parallels Desktop is very easy. When it is installed you can then use it to install what it calls the Guest operation systems i.e. the other operating system such as Windows XP or Vista or Linux that you want to run at the same time as your Mac operating system. You can install any of the Windows operating systems but there is a Windows Express Installation Assistant especially for Windows XP and Windows Vista. You can also install using Typical or Custom installation settings. During the installation process you will have to insert the CD or DVD containing the Operating System software you want installed.

When the Guest operating system is installed it will run in a Window on your Mac screen. When you launch an application in the virtual machine with Windows installed, the application's icon appears in the Dock by default. Right-click (Control-click) the applications icon in the Dock, and select Keep in Dock. In this way even when the virtual machine is stopped, the application icon will remain in the Dock. If you click the Windows application's icon in the Dock it launches the virtual machine and then the Windows application.

Parallels Desktop includes specially developed tools that help you use your virtual machines in the most comfortable and efficient way.

To exchange files between the Mac OS X and your Windows virtual machine, you can set up one or more shared folders that will be visible to both operating systems.

In the virtual machine you can open Mac OS X applications. The list of Parallels Shared Applications is created during the installation of Parallels Tools. The list of your Mac applications is available when you choose All Programs -> Parallels Shared Applications from the Windows Start menu.

So now all those Windows applications or game you want to use can now be run on you Mac.

Download free Ipod song

Download free Ipod song. This is more involved than you may think! It is not hard to download stuff onto your Ipod. A simple search engine search will bring up a lot of free sites, but did you find doing so may brick your Ipod or land you in jail? In this article there is a list of tips to assist you in downloading free Ipod songs safely and legally!

Situation 1- A lot of the free download sites can be very unsafe when it comes to security. I'm sure you would not want to see your beloved Imac or Apple Macbook ruined by a virus, or have to put up with your Ipod becoming a non functioning brick? With your keenness to find free music downloads, it is easy to become over enthusiastic, which plays right into the hands of these unscrupulous sites. Their downloads are often corrupted with spyware and adware, or often something even worse! You will also often download something from one of these sites and then find that it in no way matches what it was supposed to be. The site is only interested in getting access to your computer, and they probably achieved this with your download. You would be well advised to check your computer if you have ever downloaded from these kind of sites!

Situation 2- It's against the law! If you look at these download sites, they don't look legitimate, and they try to offload spyware and malware onto peoples computers. Would legal and ethical sites behave like this? It has to be stated quite categorically that downloading from P2P sites is illegal. Period. The US government is making the law on this tighter on an ongoing basis, and people are going to prison for these offences! You have to decide whether it is worth risking being sent to jail just for downloading a free song or free film.

Situation 3- It is probably really easy to set up an illegal P2P download site. I say this because you certainly see enough of them. One of the biggest pitfalls with wanting to download a free Ipod song, is that it is not that easy to find the legitimate sites. None of the illegal sites are going to have that fact plastered all over their website. As their main source of revenue is people clicking ads, they try to attract as many visitors to the site as they can..

Don't let all of this put you off if you really want to download a free Ipod song, as it can be done safely. We are now seeing the emergence of a few legal download sites, which proves that Itunes does not have a monopoly. These are very useful sites. When you find one you like you can probably use it for life. I'll show you where you can find the best ones in a second. There is one small downside, in that these sites have to charge a small membership fee. The proceeds from this go toward upkeep of their servers, and also help pay the music licenses etc. It's usually around $20 to $50, and once you are a paid up member, you have unlimited access to high speed downloads. These include music, films, games, music videos and even TV shows. It is impressive value for the price, and there is no limit as it is a lifetime membership, so your $20 will get you thousands of downloads. Much cheaper than Itunes.

This article will have illustrated how dangerous it is to patronise the shady free download sites which are all too common on the internet. There is a better way to download free Ipod song! As I mentioned earlier, check out some links to the best free download sites below.

More time spent shopping online and more money spent on high-tech items this Christmas.

Christmas is upon us yet again, meaning it’s time to show friends and family how much they are loved by the exchange of gifts, which is good news for the retail sector. Unfazed by the recent credit crunch, a new survey by professional services firm Deloitte shows that consumer spending on Christmas presents in the UK is likely to increase 7% from last year, from £662 per person to £706, despite consumer pessimism towards the state of the economy.

Furthermore, The Annual Christmas Retail Survey, released this week and available at the Deloitte website, predicts that this Christmas the most prominent trends in shopping are the increased use of the internet and demand for high-tech items.

The survey, which gathered, information from 1000 respondents, found that twice as many are expected to buy their gifts online compared to last year’s 14%. The survey also found that only one in 10 will spend a full day on the high street. This trend was aided by consumers becoming more familiar and confident with shopping online and improved customer service from e-tailers. The advantage of the internet as a shopping resource is obvious …#34; consumers can avoid queues and items being out of stock while price comparison between different providers is only a click away. The important thing to remember if you are going do your Christmas shopping online is to allow for enough time for shipping in order to get items on time.

Consumer spending on high-tech items is also set to increase. Deloitte found that 44% of the respondents were planning to buy a computer game as a gift, up from 38% last year. 26% said they expected to purchase an MP3 player, an increase from 20% last year. If you aren’t looking to shell out the kind of cash required for a Nintendo Wii or an iPhone, there are plenty of more affordable gadgets available as an alternative. Most retailers will have a selection of Christmas gifts for him to satisfy most men’s inner geek, from Simpsons Doughnut Makers to radio-controlled Daleks. There are also now plenty of gadgets aimed specifically at women, from microwaveable slippers to USB-powered vacuum cleaners and hand spa centres.

In the end, Christmas is more about giving than receiving, and despite the trend towards increased spending; it is the thought that counts behind each present. With a little over a month away until Christmas it is should be easy to find gifts for most loved ones, whatever your budget, online or on the highstreet.

How To Take Your iPhone To The Next Level

The clever little Apple iPhone is so much more than just a phone, we're talking cutting edge technology here, baby! Music, video, internet, email, state of the art touch screen, accelerometer to alter the display, just to mention a few of it's capabilities and features. So if you are lucky enough to get your hands on one of these wonders of modern technology it only seems natural to want to use it to it's full potential, right?

There are a few ways of getting what you need to take your iPhone to the next level, some good and some not so good. Being able to download all varieties of media and software is one thing, paying through the nose for it is one thing you don't want to do. With the original source of downloads charging a fee of around one dollar for each and every download, getting all the files you want can turn into a very expensive exercise.

As with everything these days if you look hard enough you will find that there is plenty of so-called free download sites for your iPhone. If viruses, spyware, adware and no guarantee that you're getting what you searched for doesn't bother and you're happy to ignore copyright laws, then these sites will get you what you need, maybe. But I'm sure that you would want your gadget to keep working as it was designed to for many years to come.

So where do we find unlimited, safe downloads for your iPhone for a reasonable price? Easy, a download membership site that offers unlimited downloads for a one-time fee and one that has a no spyware/adware guarantee. Such sites are usually priced around the fifty dollar mark for as many files as you can possibly download and with around thirty billion music, movie, tv and software application files available to you I think for that price they are great value.

Most sites offer exceptional download speeds, have the necessary file playing software available for free, high-quality mp3 formats and have 24/7 technical assistance available for free if you do strike any problems. Not having to pay-per-download alone would see you save the membership price before you had all your favorite songs downloaded. Think of it as an all-you-can-eat buffet for your iPhone!

Nokia And Yahoo! Team Up

Well, it was only a matter of time until web search became a hit on cell phones. Yahoo! and Nokia have been working together over the past year to get web and image search results on your cell pone.

This feature is now available in 10 languages on a variety of Nokia phones including the N80, N70, N93, N71, and a number of other phones.

There are many great features on the Nokia N-series that it is hard to know where to start. There's the 3 mega pixel camera for starters which is really powerful for a phone camera combining fun, functionality and style in one, being one of the best-looking smart phones on the market today. Supporting Email client, internet browser, and Wi-Fi makes it a powerful business device as well. The sliding keyboard reveals the dial pad when opened which keeps the overall size of the N-series down. Yahoo's mobile search software for Nokia cell phones is a simple, convenient, and easy way to find and connect to local internet services, web sites, images, mobile content and ringtones. Partnership has already started to drive customers' usage of mobile search. The Nokia mobile search also increases consumer discoverability of search on mobile devices as in many cases search will be accessible directly from the menu screen. This pact is an expansion of an already strong cooperation between leading players in their fields.
"Nokia is extremely focused on providing the multimedia computer user the easiest route to explore the Internet and find what they need while they are on the go, such as images, facts, restaurants and addresses," commented Ralph Eric Kunz, vice president, Multimedia Experiences, at Nokia. The Nokia 6500 Classic & Slide - pure class by Mark Bonnett

Nokia have enjoyed the market share of the mobile phone industry for over 7 years continually releasing new innovative, stylish and functional mobile handsets that appeal to the entire spectrum of mobile phone users requirements.
The manufacturer has always catered for everyone from the gadget hungry who revell in the experience of owning the latest technology, the fashion led who enjoy nothing better than roaming the streets proudly showing off their new Nokia phone and those who prefer the simplicity of making calls and sending text messages from a user friendly, budget handset.
It may not come as a surprise that in the day and age of covered pop music and reworked films from the 1960s that Nokia are the first company to re-release a new phone sporting the same model number as an age old classic that lived in peoples pockets over 5 years ago. No other mobile manufacturer has either thought of or had the courage to do this showing that Nokia are extremely proud, not only of their current releases but of their ground breaking models still talked about by mobile enthusiasts the world over. The new Nokia 6500 has been given an extra model description: Classic, setting it apart from it original namesake and no doubt to stop confusion between buyer and seller. The original 6500 model was and still is the only Nokia mobile phone ever to offer a blue backlit display screen. At the time of its release, all other Nokia phones were using the signature green backlight. Other unique features included its overall shape, the Nokia 6500 was the first of a succession of models with squared corners, later followed by the Nokia 8310.
The new Nokia 6500 Classic follows on the tradition of its namesake with a very square design and an individual casing made from seamless anodized aluminium giving the phone a feel of quality and expense. In terms of design you could be forgiven for thinking you had just picked up the original phone, however as soon as you touch a button you are presented with a full colour display telling apart the two models. Housed beneath this cool exterior lies a 2.0 megapixel camera supporting video record and playback and an MP3 Player for listening to your favourite music tracks. The Nokia 6500 Classic is also 3G enabled allowing for fast access to the internet and emails as well as broadband speed downloads of new mobile content such as ringtones, games and new themes. You can also keep up to date with the latest news and sports headlines, new movie trailers and latest music releases via 3G services. Connectivity is easy with Bluetooth, UMTS support, USB port and EDGE technology offering multiple ways of files transfer, data download and voice.
The Nokia 6500 is to be available in two diferent formats, the Nokia 6500 Classic and Nokia 6500 Slide. In a world where consumers seem to expect remakes and sequals that never seem to live up to the originals the Nokia 6500 Classic breaks the rules and offers age old design with the latest mobile phone technology.
